PSHE and Character Education

At Weald Primary School, we believe that personal, social, health, and economic (PSHE) education is at the heart of a child’s development. It goes beyond teaching—it shapes character, supports emotional growth, and lays the foundation for social responsibility. Our approach to PSHE aims to equip children with the tools they need to navigate life with confidence, resilience, and respect for others.

Our PSHE curriculum is deeply rooted in the belief that “Independence is Happiness,” as outlined in our School Vision Statement. This philosophy guides the development of positive character traits, helping our students grow into thoughtful, responsible, and well-rounded individuals. We emphasize Character Education alongside SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural) values and “Global Values,” fostering a deep sense of connection to the world around them.

Through a carefully structured programme of study, we ensure consistency and progression in our children’s personal development. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support both academic learning and the development of key life skills, from emotional intelligence to social awareness. Our PSHE education also supports the school’s focus on behaviour, attitudes, and safeguarding, making a significant contribution to our commitment to equality, diversity, and the Government’s global values agenda.

At Weald, we are committed to nurturing the whole child, helping them grow not only academically but also socially, emotionally, and ethically, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
