The school’s vision statement is ‘Independence is Happiness’. This is underpinned by the values of ‘Respect’, ‘Optimism’ and ‘Ambition’.
Culturally, the school’s pupil population has undergone a significant demographic change in recent years. In 2010, 10% of the children were from ethnic groups other than White English. By 2016, the percentage had risen to 20%. This may be attributed to the school’s much enhanced emphasis on developing children’s values, knowledge and skills in preparation for living and working in a globalised world.
This internationalisation of the community is distinctive within the school’s immediate geographical context and may be attributed to the effectiveness of the website in communicating the school’s ethos to families immigrating to the UK and the success of the Global Learning dimension.
The Department for Education have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
