History

History is so much more than just a record of events—it’s a journey of inquiry that encourages critical thinking and the exploration of the past. It’s the process of searching for evidence, sorting it, evaluating it, and weighing it to form a clearer understanding of what happened. As historians, we must recognize that history is a discipline—a skillset that allows us to navigate and interpret differing accounts of the same event.

At Weald Primary School, we provide an engaging history curriculum that inspires our students to become young historians. Through enquiry-based learning, they explore the complexities of the past, understanding that events can be interpreted in multiple ways. Our students learn to question, analyze, and reconstruct history, developing the critical thinking skills necessary to assess different perspectives and form their own informed views.

By examining historical events, both locally and globally, our pupils will develop the ability to see the world through the lens of history, recognizing its influence on their own lives. We encourage them to not only learn about the past but also to use those lessons to shape their future. As they grow in their historical understanding, they will learn to write their own stories within the larger context of history.
