This was a truly intrepid adventure! Our year 3s and year 4s recently immersed themselves in the wilderness for a 3-day, 2-night residential experience with The Bushcraft Company in the forests at Penshurst Place.
These little legends seriously embraced the exciting survival itinerary! From building and igniting the campfire and cooking beef burgers over the open flames to filleting and smoking a fresh salmon, they engaged in a wide range of outdoor learning activities: den building, camouflaging themselves and enjoying games in the woods.
As night fell, the squad gathered around the fire to roast some delicious marshmallows and drink mugs of hot chocolate before climbing into their cosy sleeping bags. Despite the electric storm overnight, these troopers were up bright and early, ready to take on more Bushcraft challenges!
Over a hearty camp breakfast, they prepped for a day of ultimate survival skills like bush first aid. The rescue mission highlight involved them springing into action to save “victims” from a simulated plane crash.
When night came again, it was chocolatey baked banana time by the fire before lights out. On the final morning, the ‘Camp Champs’ cleaned up their site like professional explorers, squeezing in some last Bushcraft tricks (including trap setting) before heading back to Weald.
It was a tremendous opportunity for our children to learn through adventure in a safe, yet challenging, environment. We are all so very proud of them. They faced every woodland feat with big smiles. Seeing them push through and embrace the adventure was such a privilege.
